Being A Celebrity Is No Immunity To Racism In America, Zendaya Learns

Zendaya Coleman, an American singer, yesterday, took to Snapchat to talk about the hurtful experience she had on Sept. 6.

According to the social media video, 20 year old Zendaya tells a story of how she was allegedly refused service at a grocery store because of her ‘skin tone,’ and she is, apparently, upset about it.

Zendaya heartbreakingly claims that she was refused service by a grocery store clerk because of the color of her skin. “So we just got out of this Vons,” Zendaya explained to the camera while sitting next to a friend. “Now I am trying to buy a lot of gift cards. There are certain limits or whatever so you can only buy so much. But the lady that was helping us… I don’t think she was a fan of our skin tone.”

“She then threw my wallet,” the singer said, sounding completely shocked. “I can’t make this up! This is what we deal with! She literally threw my wallet and she was like ‘You can’t afford this.’ It was $400! Long story short. There is so much progress to be done in our world.”
