Today, trends have not only allowed the invention of a multiplicity of new sex practices but also given the morale for lovers to try them out, even adopt them.
In essence, people’s sexuality has been explored with as many exotic styles as there are cultures and information on internet. Yet, in spite of this, not all these practices are as safe as they seem. Many strange practices are equally unhygienic and could be the cause of your sexual health troubles
A chat with Dr. Emmanuel Bukalu, a Reproductive Health Specialist at Zziwa Memorial Medical Center, reveals that most of the unconventional sex practices are, in fact, unhealthy.
Many people feel safe engaging in this behavior because they figure there is not much risk, especially of unwanted pregnancies. There are, however, several hygienic consequences. Some STIs, such as herpes, gonorrhea, HPV, yeast, and syphilis can be transmitted through oral-genital contact. For example, oral herpes [cold sores] can be transmitted to the genitals and genital herpes can be transmitted to the mouth.

But one can also get throat cancer through oral sex. This is because Human Papilloma Virus, HPV is passed from one person to another through oral sex. Whereas the Human Papilloma Virus, HPV does not always cause cancer, it has been found responsible for cancers such as Oropharyngeal [throat] cancer and many more fungal diseases.
Sex during menstruation
As strange as it sounds, some people find it very preferable to have intercourse when in their period. Apparently, in a way, it relieves menstrual cramps. And medical minds seem to agree. However, during menstruation, the veins of the uterus are congested and are prone to rupture easily. Having intercourse in this state therefore means that there are more chances for irritation an increased risk of infection.
In some instances it is the only/entire sexual activity a couple might choose to have or just may be part of mutual masturbation or foreplay. Whether or not penetrative, it is the manual genital manipulation of the clitoris, vagina or anus for sexual arousal.
However, according to Dr. Bukalu, this practice is such a risk when the fingers are not protected with gloves. Long, sharp and jagged nails can easily cause spread of bacteria like cocci and other germs. If there are cuts, infections and open wounds on the fingers, cross-contamination is very likely.
In the same way, it is very bad to finger the vagina after using the same finger that has been in the anus. This is because the finger that has explored the depths of the anal cavity has probably picked up some E. coli bacteria. E. coli from the colon that somehow gets into the urethra is the most common cause of urinary tract infections [UTIs].
Hence the doctor says couples should always wash their hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. It is also advisable that gloves are used and extra care is taken before practicing fingering.
There are many risks associated with anal sex other than sexually transmitted infections [STIs], because a lot of friction is produced during anal sex as it is during vaginal sex. However, friction may be more of an issue during anal sex because the inside layer of the anus is more delicate and produces less natural lubricant than the vagina.
Anal sex may make a person more susceptible to bacterial infection around the anus and rectum. This is because the lining of the rectum is not as tough as the inside layer of the vagina, so it is more susceptible to tears. If the anus/rectum gets torn, it does not heal as quickly. Because feces that pass through the rectum contain bacteria, any tear in the lining is at risk of getting infected. Lining tears may lead to other problems such as anal blisters, which can make transmission of STIs more likely.
In extreme cases, a tear in the inside layer can develop into a fissure/larger tear and may extend outside of the bowel. This is called a fistula and it is a significant medical issue because it allows feces to pass outside of the bowel, and requires major surgery to repair.

The most common ones are the dildos. When these are mismanaged by, for example, using one toy in the anus and using the same in the vagina, it easily transports bacteria from the rectum to the genital thus causing vaginal infections. This is equally true with condoms.
Moreover when the storage is poor, and then randomly picked with excitement, chances are that these not-carefully-washed toys would have picked germs which are carried to their users.
Multiple sex partners at ago
Sleeping with more than one person in the same bed equally means sharing orgasms but especially germs. For instance a penis will carry germs from one woman’s genitals to another’s. It is worse if anal, vaginal and oral orientations are all in the “threesome”.
These modern sex practices such as fingering and anal sex are vehemently discouraged by medical brains yet, according to Dr. Bukalu, if one can’t do without them, they are cautioned to be very careful; not to go for sex while they have not thoroughly washed up, to avoid being between a choice for pleasure and their health. Furthermore, sex partners are advised to use protection whether for a handjob or blowjob.
