Katherine Switzer was attacked 50 years ago for being a woman, daring to take part in the Boston Marathon. It was inconceivable back then for a woman to be such a “tomboy” – doing men stuff, so to speak. And sprinting was one of the out-of-bounds games for women.
However women were finally officially allowed to enter the race in 1972
How far we’ve come; this year Switzer ran at the marathon at 70 years.
